Sick

For the past 3+ weeks, we have had too much sickness going on in our family. In my last post I mentioned how 3 of us had strep. We were lucky that no one else in the family got strep. However, we got other stuff. Before we even finished the antibiotics that Jonny, Becca and I were on, all three of us started getting head colds. Then Becca got a stomach bug. Breanna and Katie were mildly sick with fevers and runny noses somewhere in there. Jonny woke up one night with a fever of 104 and on medication we could get it down to 102. Megan had started with a runny nose and was starting to get a cough. So on March 2nd, I took Jonny and Megan in to the doctor. Jonny seemed to not have gotten rid of strep, which was also causing a rash, plus he had ear infections in both ears as well as the upper respiratory infection. He was put on a stronger antibiotic. Megan tested positively for RSV, which in older children and adults equates to a basic cold. But in infants it can be life-threatening because they are so little and their condition can change rapidly. Thankfully, Megan didn't have a bad case of it, and we were able to give her occasional breathing treatments of albuterol. But there were several nights where we were worried that we would have to take her in to the hospital. It isn't fair for a little baby to be sick. :( A few days later, Jonny's ear infection was not better, so he had to have antibiotic ear drops as well.

Today, we are mostly better. (I think I have a sinus infection, but compared to everything else, this is cake.) Richard is at church with all the older kids. (I hope he survives.) I stayed home with Megan, who could use more time to recover and not be exposed to more germs. I hope one week soon we will all be able to go to church together. We were planning to bless Megan last week, but we were too sick. So the plan is now to bless her on April 10th. (More time for me to get the dress done.) :)

Despite all the sickness, I feel truly blessed. Compared to others trials, this isn't bad at all. Megan is now 9 weeks old, and though she still cries a lot, has begun smiling more, and those smiles help me forget all about the crying. They are hard to capture on the camera, but here's some from today.
The older girls have spring break this week and I am excited to be able to get out of the house and make some fun family memories.

Here's to a healthy spring! :)

  1. I hope you guys start feeling better soon, and that you will have a healthy family for a LONG TIME TO COME. You have had your fair share for a few winters.
